  • Bakhmaro is a remote alpine paradise in the Lesser Caucasus. You’ll ski a wide range of terrain: powder bowls, glades, gullies, open runs, and dense forests — all accessed by snowcat (no lifts). The area is 80 km² with vertical drops of 400–1,000m per run.

    Expect:

    • Wide open powder runs

    • Technical gullies and mellow tree skiing

    • Snow-covered abandoned cabins and untouched glades

    • Deep, light powder thanks to Bakhmaro’s sea-mountain microclimate

  • Most groups get 8–12 runs per day, totaling 3,500–4,500 vertical meters. Terrain choice varies by snow and group ability.

  • All guides are IFMGA and GMGA certified — the highest international standard. They’re experienced in first aid, avalanche forecasting, and mountain rescue, and each group has:

    • 1 lead guide and 1 tail guide (1:6 ratio)

    • Constant radio contact with snowcat/lodge

    • Emergency kits and satellite phone on hand

  • Mandatory:

    • Avalanche transceiver

    • Shovel

    • Probe

    • Avalanche airbag backpack

Rentals are available if booked in advance. Helmets are highly recommended.

  • This trip is tailored to expert off-piste skiers and riders. You should:

    • Be confident in powder, crust, and variable snow

    • Be comfortable skiing in trees

    • Have a good baseline of cardio fitness

    • Arrive in Tbilisi: By midnight on Saturday, January 24

    • Return flight: No earlier than 6:00am on Sunday, February 1

Tip: Carry your critical gear (e.g. boots, outerwear) in your carry-on in case your checked bags are delayed.

  • You must have travel insurance that covers:

    • Off-piste skiing

    • Mountain rescue & emergency evacuation

    • Medical treatment

    • Trip cancellation
Make sure Georgia is included in your coverage region. If you’re renting gear, check your policy for equipment damage coverage.

  • Georgian Lari (GEL) is essential for small stops

Euros are widely accepted in larger towns

Most places in Tbilisi accept cards, but bring some cash for:

    • Apres drinks (outside of dinner wine)

    • Optional tips for guides/staff

    • Snacks or drinks on the road

  • Rental equipment (available with advance booking):

    • Freeride skis or snowboards: €25/day (K2 Excavator & Passport models)

    • Avalanche bag + full kit: €25/day

      Includes transceiver, probe, and shovel

You are responsible for lost/damaged rental gear beyond normal wear and tear. Insurance is recommended.
